Democracy Today NGO, in cooperation with the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA), organized a community wrap-up workshop as part of the project “Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Armenia’s Border Communities through Enhanced Local Leadership.”
The workshop was opened with welcome remarks by Julia Qvist Uddenberg and Mona Hossaini, representatives of the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA), and Gyulnara Shahinyan, Founder and President of Democracy Today NGO.
During the opening session, the speakers presented the project’s objectives and key areas of work, highlighting the importance of local leadership, community cooperation, and dialogue in strengthening peace, social cohesion, and resilience in Armenia’s border communities.
The workshop brought together members of local councils, as well as heads of municipal departments and divisions from the Tavush and Gegharkunik regions. Participants reflected on the outcomes of previous community activities, discussed local challenges, exchanged experiences, and jointly developed recommendations aimed at strengthening social cohesion, peace, and resilience in border communities.
A key component of the workshop was the World Café session, during which participants transformed the outcomes of community dialogues into practical policy recommendations. Each group presented priority challenges, recommendations for state institutions, and the expected impact of these proposals on strengthening peace and resilience in border communities.
As part of the workshop, Naira Sultanyan, a member of the Bridge of Peace initiative, facilitated a discussion on peacebuilding at the community level, with a particular focus on peace and conflict literacy and the role of local councils in promoting peace within their communities.
The workshop concluded with the presentation of certificates to all participants.
